Yaangna (Downtown LA): Bee Yard

The land was a well-mulched, fast-draining space with tree cover and a meadow. SSC partnered with HoneyLove for this soil sponge. HoneyLove is a Los Angeles-based 501(c)3 non-profit conservation organization that aims to protect the honeybees by educating our communities and inspiring new urban beekeepers.

Our goal was to introduce more bee-loving native plants, apply biodynamic preparations to the soil, and continue to add mulch layers to the area; 13 native plants, including 2 California Lilac trees, were planted, along with California sunflowers, Palmer’s Mallow and Hummingbird Sage. We intend to add more native plants to the land soon.
