Harbor City
Harbor City began as degraded, compacted dirt with no existing vegetation. Due to flooding and poor drainage, the site was unfortunately concretized around the front and back perimeters, creating a hotter urban environment.
Our goal was to restore microbial life and introduce rounds of diverse cover crops to increase organic matter, biodiversity, and soil fertility. The greatest challenge with the site remains mitigating drying winds and ensuring enough organic matter is continuously returned to the soil to hold moisture. Cinder block walls still need to be addressed to ward off evaporation and excess heat, especially in summer months.
