Tuxuunga

We participated in the volunteer program with ST Forward, which has preserved the area known as Tuxuunga (the Place of the Old Woman, in the Tongva language). Traditional ecological knowledge, sacred reciprocity with our living relatives, communal stewardship, and Indigenous leadership are being uplifted on this 111 acres of unceded Tongva land, thanks to the persevering activism of local residents and Indigenous groups.

Our goal was to support ST Forward as they continue to breathe new life into Sunland-Tujunga through collaborative action that centers equity, inclusion, and transformative relationships inspired by the needs of our environment and all its diverse inhabitants.

We assisted with mulching and removal of various plant species to make room for native plants. Four Oaks were also planted to honor the Calderon family's Tongva heritage.
