Hollywood 2: Triangle

Begun in 2021 as a degraded and recently disturbed plot surrounded on three sides by a paved roadway. Almost nothing but hardy weeds were sparsely growing in the compacted and dry ‘dirt’. 

We aimed to create the conditions for a more abundant and inviting place for animals, insects, and people. To kickstart nature’s tendency to increase organic matter, biodiversity, and biomass, we built ad hoc terracing with giant bamboo poles and introduced our magic formula of water soaking, bio-complete compost and extracts (compost soaked water) and planted 30 different seed types including legumes and pollinators, tree starts, perennials, cuttings of Tithonia Diversifolia; then covered the area with alfalfa hay. We also made a curb cut ‘parkway drain’ to allow rain gutters to flow onto the land. 

After four years, we see massive success in greening, beautifying, and attracting animals, birds, rabbits, and neighbors who pick flowers and fruits. Water absorption and retention significantly increased, leaving this greener right through the summer without additional watering.
